About Geneva Airport
The Geneva (GVA) International Airport, also known as
Cointrin Airport, is serving Geneva, Switzerland. It is
set at 2.5 miles (4 km) northwest of the center of
Geneva, and at the border with France. This makes the
airport accessible from both countries. One part of the
airport is located in the commune of Meyrin and the
other within the commune of Grand-Saconnex.
The Geneva (GVA) International Airport is a major hub
for EasyJet Switzerland, Flybaboon, Darwin Airline and
Hello AG. It is also the fight hub for the European
Union even though Switzerland is not a member of the EU;
this is because the freight operations are accessible
from both sides, France and Switzerland. In 2010, the
airport served around 12,000,000 passengers.
The single concrete runway of 3,900 m long is the
longest in Switzerland; the airport also has a smaller
one, a parallel grass runway used for light aircrafts.
The airport has extensive convention facilities and
there can be found the headquarters of Airports Council
International (ACI) and an office of the International
Air Transport Association (IATA). The Baboo airline also
has its head office on the grounds of the airport.
